Sporting events always call for recording best shots on film or in videos. Some of the greatest moments in the sporting world are always relived through videos showing excellence of execution, brilliance in performance and perfection in motion for other athletes to glorify, for fans’ amazement and for aspiring athletes to emulate. May it be professional sports like basketball, baseball, American football or the extreme sports of skateboarding, stunt cycling and in-line skating, the need for taking videos of the best moments still call for the best quality of video-recording to be used.
When I was younger, my friends and I get a kick out of filming our stunts on bikes and skateboards. We each have our own camcorders that we use to capture our moments while doling the stunts. And yes, we had different ones and compared our own videos with each other to decide which of our videos had the best resolution and clarity. And now, I’m taking the time to recommend some of the best camcorders for sports in the market that you could choose to do the same.
Here are a few models of the best camcorders for sports that you could choose from to use at these times:
1.
Veho VCC-003-MUVI-BLK MUVI Micro digital camcorder for Action Sports. This tiny camera can be deceiving for its size. The case is actually built for rugged use as it isn’t common to find a tiny camera in a metallic casing. Also, this is the choice for the camera that you wanted to mount in your helmet if you’re into extreme biking. Voice activated function is also a plus for easy use. The only downside that I saw was that files are only limited to a certain amount of time (30 minutes) and then it opens up a new file with the same limit. The memory may also be a little bit small for some people as it can only store up to 2 hours of video, or 2GB or video. But despite these cons, the camcorder is still worth the average price of $49, which is still too low for a handheld camcorder that can record in high definition. The combination of good quality and low price make it one of the top picks.
2.
GoPro HD HERO2: Motorsports Edition. If you have the cash and you’re into motorsports, this camcorder is an absolute necessity. This gadget can shoot 10 pictures per second on burst mode, can also record high definition videos at varying resolutions, has remote-control features at varying distances and can also utilize WiFi techonology. Dustproof and waterproof, this camcorder can also be mounted easily on helmets, bikes or dashboards. Althoughy the price is quite steep at $300, you definitely get the value for your money with all the smashing features that the camcorder has and with all the video and picture quality that comes with it. This should definitely be on every motorsports enthusiast’s wishlist..
3.
Kodak PlaySport (Zx3) HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera. It can be a little deceiving and you might confuse this with its big brother, Kodak PlaySport (Zx5) HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera, but a closer look on the features will reveal that it is actually the lower version of the Zx5. For one, although this unit may have the less features than the Zx5, this camera gives value to people who only would want to use recording underwater, like if you are a diver who wanted to record what is always underwater in the beach or even in pools. If you don’t have much use of the dustproof and shockproof features then this may be the camera for you. It costs less and has almost the same features as the Zx5, albeit without the dustproof and shockproof qualities. But regardless, it still is a good find for it’s lower average price of $82.
4.
Nikon COOLPIX AW100 16 MP CMOS Waterproof Digital Camera with GPS and Full HD 1080p. From a company that is very well known for quality cameras, comes a camcorder that is every extreme athlete’s dream. Specifically designed to withstand extreme conditions, this camcorder is shockproof, waterproof and even freeze proof; can act both as a camcorder and a digital camera; has the capability to take HD videos and even has it’s own GPS! How cool is that! Although it is a bit pricey, which is it’s major downside, it has these cool features that make you forget that it actually is pricey.
5.
Sony Bloggie Sport (MHSTS22) Waterproof Video Camera. This camcorder boasts of all the features that all other camcorders for sports have: dustproof, waterproof, shockproof. It can shoot pictures and high definition videos. It has the ability to record and shoot on low light situations and has image stabilization. So what’s the catch? The price. Although most of the quality camcorders have prices ranging from $200 to $300, it’s pretty hard to believe that a quality gadget maker such as Sony can get all those features in one camera and still put it at a lower average price of $179 online. If you’re just into the outdoors or wanted to capture some moments underwater or in the wild, this can be a good choice especially if you’re a little brand conscious. Good brand, Good quality, Good price.
But for me, I would personally choose Veho VCC-003-MUVI-BLK MUVI Micro digital camcorder for Action Sports. Not only is it very portable, it also provides quality videos especially for sports enthusiasts. It is immensely protected against harsh conditions without affecting the quality of the videos while in it. It is the perfect camera for extreme sports, and also for people who crave the great outdoors. For me, this really is the best camcorder for sports among the best that there is.

How to charge a Flip video camera? This is definitely a question that can be answered by those who are using a Flip video camera. Fortunately, I have one. Whenever I go out, I always make sure that I bring my Flip Mino Video Camera with me. Most of my friends who are using the Flip video camera for the first time always face battery recharging issue. Since I have one, I’m feeling like an expert to share my experience in using my Flip Video camera.
Some Flip camcorders use AA batteries while some have rechargeable internal batteries. Common sense tells us that every model of video cameras have different power plans including batteries. I always tell my friends to either use disposable batteries or use rechargeable AA batteries. Of course, they would have to purchase separate charger for their rechargeable batteries.
What are the ways of charging Flip video camera?
Basically, there are two ways of charging Flip Video camera. The first one is through the Flip power adapter. This is the default way for powering up your Flip video camera. The green light indicates that your device is currently charging. The normal charging time when using the Flip power adapter is two hours.
The second one is my favorite way of recharging Flip video camera – through computer. A computer can generate enough power to recharge a Flip video camera. This can be done when the power adapter is not present OR if you are uploading the videos and photos that you have captured. Unfortunately, recharging through the computer is automatic meaning recharging is done the moment you hook up your device to the computer. There is no option in the menu that can disable this recharging feature.
What are the things that you SHOULD NOT DO when recharging your Flip video camera?
When recharging your Flip video camera, there are things that you should not do in order to maintain optimum performance of your video recording device. These things are:
1. Disconnecting the device from the power adapter or computer.
There are people, my friends included, has this habit of disconnecting their video camcorder from the charger and use it again. This is a bad habit that deteriorates that charging capacity of the device’s internal battery (or in some cases, the disposable or rechargeable batteries). You have to remember that a battery can only bear a limited number of recharging therefore disconnecting the device in the middle of recharging affects it.
2. Using the device while charging.
This is a very common scenario to those people who cannot wait to finish recharging their Flip video camera. While you are using the device in the middle of charging, it uses up nearly double of the required power therefore deteriorating the condition of the battery. Patience is a simple virtue that you can use to prolong the life and performance of your Flip video camera.
Resetting the Flip video camera
Another question that my friends ask me is how to reset the Flip video camera?. Resetting is done when a device is not properly functioning. Some people experience a moment of panic wherein their video cameras stop working. When my friends see that their video cameras hang for a while, they would think that their devices are defective therefore throwing it away. They don’t know that most electronic devices are prone to a moment of abnormality however; it doesn’t mean that their device or video camera is defective – it just needs a little resetting. Just like computers, resetting is done to correct the errors that occurred on the processor of the video camera while it is being actively used.
I reset my Flip video camera by poking the small hole located at the tripod mount. For those who cannot locate their tripod mount, it is the hole with tread beside the HDMI port. Using a pin, press the hole for about 5 seconds until the image on the display of your Flip camera disappears. After releasing the hole, your Flip video camera will reboot and display the default information.
When the Flip video camera has been reset, the adjustments done previously would be nullified therefore going back to the original settings. If your Flip video camera does the same, don’t panic – just readjust the settings that fits your personal taste and start shooting again.
I certainly hope that this article would help you out in keeping your Flip video camera in good condition. I for one have learned through hard way about the consequences of improper using of the device. My friends on the other hand are still persistent in doing things their way. I just recently heard that their Flip video camera have been disposed of because of power condition. Knowing how to charge a Flip video camera will surely help you avoid sticky situations especially in the middle of your video shooting.

Using a device for the first time is an exciting and yet scary thing. The first time I had my Flip Video camera, I was worried that in the process of me testing it, I’d end up damaging the camera or changing the settings or doing something that cannot be undone.
But since it’s in my nature to explore, curiosity got the best of me so I explored the camera. If you are afraid to test your camera without knowing exactly how it works, I might be able to help you there. Learning how to use a flip camera may not be so bad after all.
How to use a Flip Camera?
Here are the basic things you need to know about your Flip Video Camera:
1. Batteries.
The Flip Video Camera needs a pair of AA batteries. Installation is pretty easy; just look for the sliding switch at the bottom of the camera. Slide it and remove the back case to reveal the space for the batteries. When you’ve placed the batteries, slide the cover back into its original position. Don’t pull or create an angle when removing the case because the small side clips might snap. – see here to know more about how to charge a flip video camera?
2. Power on and off.
Turn the camera on by pressing the grey button at the right side of the Flip Camera. You will then see the Flip logo at the LCD screen as a sign that it’s powered on. Press the button again if you want to turn it off.
3. Video Recording.
There’s a big red button just beneath the LCD, it’s for video recording. Press once to start recording, press again to stop recording and you’ll hear a beeping sound that signals the end of the recording. You won’t get lost on this one.
4. Zoom.
At the top and at the bottom of the Flip Video Camera, there are plus (+) and minus (-) signs. These are for zooming in and out.
5. Browsing.
Check through your various video clips with the help of the left and right arrows (around the red button).
6. Video Playback.
On the left side of the camera beneath the screen is a Play button, so you can watch your previous video clips. If you’ve just recorded a video, press the play button and you’ll immediately view the latest recording you’ve made. During playback, if you want to rewind a scene, hold the left arrow button. If you want to fast forward during playback, just hold down the right arrow button until you reach the scene you are looking for. The plus and minus buttons are useful during playback for adjusting the volume.
7. Deleting Videos.
On the right side beneath is the trash bin button for deleting video clips. Press it if you want to get rid of a video.
8. Copying Videos.
When you’re finished taking a video and want to view it in your computer, you can simply connect the Flip Camera to your computer via the USB Arm located in the left side. Slide down the USB latch to release the USB arm and you’re good to go. The computer will automatically detect the flip camera once it is attached. You are then free to copy or view your videos in your computer.
9. TV Viewing.
I have the Flip Ultra and it has a TV Output at the lower left side of the camera. It’s handy for viewing your personal films on your TV. I’ve heard that the Flip Ultra HD has an HDMI port for HDTVs, but I haven’t tried that one yet.
Tips in Using the Flip Camera
For best video quality, don’t zoom into your subject. Just maintain it zoomed out because the more you zoom in, the more blurry the image gets. Because you can’t adjust the lighting settings with this camera, it would be good to find a well-lit spot for best results.
I’ve also tried taking videos outside of the house, and one thing I noticed is that the subject should not be located behind a source of light, like the sun or a very bright light. Why so? Because you’d would end up not really “seeing” the subject. His or her face would seem like a shadow in the video.
Also, the volume of the video cannot be adjusted while recording, so it would be best to record in a place with good audio resonance. I tried taking a personal video in a park, but I ended up recording the shouts and laughter of other people there. I could barely hear myself.
One problem I encountered while learning how to use a flip camera is that it can drain your batteries fast. If you use cheap AA batteries, expect it to last for an hour or two at most. If you’re going on a trip, you’d need to pack tons of spares. I therefore advise you to use rechargeable batteries since based on my assessment, they last longer, and in the long run, won’t cost as much as non-rechargeable ones.
It’s really pretty easy to learn how to use a flip camera. Turn it on, explore, and you’ll love it as much as I do!

My passion for cameras not only involved stills; the beauty of having your memories recorded while in motion also entranced me, which led me to recording. At first, I was apprehensive of the fact that I won’t have the stillness and the subtlety of the pictures. But I discovered those hours of fun while in vacation, minutes of basking in the sun, and even seconds of laughter cannot be all captured in a set of pictures.

I bought my first flip camcorder when I was 20. A friend recommended it to me since I was always on the go; and I can say that it was one of my favorite cameras. Flip camcorders, especially digital ones, are so handy. It’s not that bulky like DSLRs, which take up a lot of space in your bag, especially the lenses. On top of that, some models actually just fit in your one hand; something that you would be a luxury for high-definition still frame cameras like DSLRs. Some flip cameras are actually available in HD and UltraHD. Enhanced storage also gives me on the average of 2 hours of video, or 120 minutes; some provide an even bigger storage but it depends on what you intend to shoot and record. The zoom actually is handy function, although it messes up the image for a bit when it is adjusting. USB plugs make uploading and transfer of files easier than most cameras (other cameras do not have a USB plug; instead, it requires you to remove the memory card and use a card reader to transfer the files to your PC or laptop.).
Easy, easy is really the word here, easy to transfer to computer & upload, easy to upload to the Internet, like this you can share your videos in little steps. One button to delete, one to record, one to share, it’s so simple. If you want make videos online without spend too much time in the technical stuffs, Flip camcorder are really useful even if you can’t always get an external mic. I could say it’s ideal for travelling, visit a new country and share your personal experience.
Another good thing about the flip camera would be the price. It’s not as pricey as the high-resolution cameras on the market but it does just make up for it. Some models have limited capabilities that you tend to think that maybe if you buy the pricier ones, you’ll get more bang for your buck. However, the features do not necessarily make up for the shortcomings that the flip camera has.
Overall, the flip camera is only for those people that needed handy cameras or pocket camcorder to record the little things in life like vacations, small family gatherings or you just wanted to shoot and show the world how your day went. For big gatherings such as weddings and reunions, I’d still go for the standard camcorders that do not have the shortcomings that the flip camera has. But for people like me who grew up with a camera in hand, flip cameras are treasures that you would want handy, so to speak.

Well if i had to buy an hd camcorder as a gift for my mum, i will take few points in consideration:
1) Need to fit in her pocket or handbag
I imagine that my mum would like to take her hd camcorder everywhere in case she wants to film something, but she doesn’t want a big stuff, just a camcorder easy to carry, easy to manipulate. It’s why a pocket camcorder will fit very well for that.
2) Need to be very easy to use
It’s not that i consider that my mum is not smart, however she likes when it’s easy to use. I don’t want her to spend hours before to be able to start filming, otherwise she will be mad before. I found that a flip camera is very great for that.
3) Need to be well designed & fashioned
Even if my mum is not a teenager anymore, she likes when an item is nice…So i want to be sure she will be happy with this point.
4) Need to have a huge memory
My mum will not really check if the memory card will be full or not, i guess she just want to film without have a headache. Then i have no choice others that be sure she has at least 2h of filming – means something around 8gb.
Having say that, i will probably choose a flip camcorder that can fit in her pocket with at least 8GB of memory. And of course last point, i will check for a price that is nice with my budget. I don’t want to lose too much time on the web by searching for a good item, a good price and so on, so i will go directly to Amazon to see the Top deals in Camcorders.
Having say that i made a short selection of my favorite camcorder deals for my mum :
uCorder Pockito Mini Pocket Camcorder -$ 100.
Just need to add a 8gb memory card.
Toshiba Camileo S20 Full-HD Camcorder $115.91.
Just need to add a 32gb memory card to get enough time of recording.
Kodak PlayFull Waterproof - $79.
My favorite one because it’s a bundle that come with Floating Wrist Strap, 4GB Memory Card, and Camera Case. Just need to add a 16gb memory card.
Now if you’re looking for more camcorder deals, be sure to see the Top deals in Camcorders.
